Brewery Park Now Open

This item is just in time for Spring! The Olympia Tumwater Foundation invites you to experience the gorgeous, redesigned salmon hatchery and expanded walking and biking trails at the newly reopened Brewery Park at Tumwater Falls. The park was closed for more than a year for construction and enhancements (and COVID). It officially reopened on April 1, 2021.

Front and center is the modernization of the popular salmon hatchery. Visitors can now enjoy a large bank of fish viewing windows which offer an underwater view of the lifecycle of the salmon as they return to the fish holding ponds at the hatchery. From September to late October Brewery Park becomes a focal point of salmon watching. The fish ladders within the falls themselves, built back in the 1950s, have also been cleaned and readied for this season’s salmon return. The salmon hatchery modernization project was constructed by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, the City of Tumwater, the Squaxin Island Tribe, and the Olympia Tumwater Foundation.

Walkers, joggers, bikers and sightseers will delight in the new, expanded trail that connects Brewery Park at Tumwater Falls with Tumwater Historical Park. Plans to lengthen the trail further and connect it to more neighborhoods and parks will soon be underway. You can learn more about those plans here.

Further Brewery Park enhancements include enlarged ADA compliant bathrooms and a ramp to the hatchery viewing area making it accessible to everyone.

Brewery Park at Tumwater Falls is privately owned and maintained by the Olympia Tumwater Foundation. The Foundation relies on the generous support of private donors and support from the community to keep the park open.
